Security Advice

Passengers are reminded that heightened security restrictions remain at all UK airports. All passengers will be subject to hand baggage restrictions and are asked to be patient while these additional security measures are in place. Please arrive at the airport early and allow enough time to be searched.

In line with the revised travel security measures, below is a step by step guide to the requirements in place as well as advice to aid travelling passengers pass through the security check as quickly as possible.

For detailed guidance download the information below:

Passenger Requirements

  • Liquids

Some liquids will be allowed once again through airport security check points. There will however be restrictions on the quantity of liquids that can be taken through:

image:security bagPassengers may carry small quantities of liquids, but only within separate containers each of which with a capacity not greater than 100ml.

These containers must be brought to the airport contained in a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag, which itself must not exceed 1 litre in capacity (approximately 20cms x 20cms). The contents of the plastic bag must fit comfortably and the bag sealed. Each passenger may carry only one such bag of liquids

The bag must be presented for examination at the airport security point.

Liquids that can not be placed inside the re-sealable bag must be packed into the hold luggage and checked in. Liquids of any amount can still be carried in luggage checked into the aircraft hold.

Remember that 'Liquids' includes:

  • All drinks, including water, soup, syrups
  • Creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, mascara etc
  • Sprays and pressurized containers including shaving foam and spray deodorants
  • Pastes, including toothpastes
  • Gels, including hair and shower gel
  • Any other solutions and items of similar consistency

  • Medicines

Passengers may take essential medicines and baby food in larger quantities above the 100ml limit, but will be subject to the authentication that is already currently required.

  • Cabin baggage and size allowed

From January 7th Newcastle International Airport will be lifting the restrictions on one piece of hand luggage. This will be phased in over 2 days.

The tighter hand luggage regulations were originally implemented in August 2006 following threats from liquid explosives.

This will mean passengers travelling on airlines which carry the new policy flying from Newcastle International, will be allowed more than one piece of hand luggage but will still not be allowed to carry liquids, creams or gels of more than 100ml in cabin baggage.

For full details on liquid restrictions please see our security advice section.

Not all Airports can facilitate this relaxation though so please check carefully that all airports in your journey have also changed this policy.

We would remind all passengers that each airline has their own policy regarding cabin baggage allowed on their aircraft and we strongly recommend that all passengers check direct with their airline before travelling to the airport.
